Our delivery workstreams are designed to achieve specific outcomes that align with PGN's five-point action plan.

We want to be able to identify groundwater and mine water monitoring locations; recharge and alscharge locations pasea on une geology. The conceptual
understanding of the geology and groundwater has far reaching benefits even beyond our aims.

Monitoring of groundwater levels using existing and new assets.
Boreholes and flow monitors will be used to evaluate now groundwater moves and levels change over time.

A flood forecasting system for groundwater flood risk that uses monitoring data and flood risk mapping, with an alert feature to warn communities and businesses of upcoming flood risks, giving them time to plan and prepare.
Detailed groundwater flooding warning systems are a relatively new technology. This project will trial and demonstrate the system to evaluate costs and benefits, facilitating a national adoption.
This workstream investigates ways to enhance efficiency by improving the recording, management, and sharing of flood data, including data related to groundwater flooding.
Working with communities and educational institutions to improve learning, raise awareness, and enhance preparedness for flooding.
Creating accessible learning content on groundwater flood risk, other sources of flooding, water resources, the environment, and climate change. Working closely with schools and STEM organisations in our region.
This workstream will strategically identify long-term opportunities for effective groundwater flood risk management, leveraging insights gained from the six other workstreams. It will consolidate lessons learned, pinpoint transferable opportunities, and provide actionable policy recommendations.
This initiative will represent the enduring legacy of Project Groundwater Northumbria, with a planned launch in 2025.
